Scholar FAQs
Find answers to frequently asked questions about the Beinecke Scholarship.
When do Beinecke Scholars begin receiving scholarship payments?

Do Beinecke Scholars need to begin graduate study right away?
No, but Scholars must use all funding within six years of completing their undergraduate studies and within five years of beginning graduate studies.
Do Beinecke Scholars need to pursue graduate study in the US?
No, but it is not possible to guarantee that Beinecke funds will be accepted by non-US institutions.
Can students receive Beinecke funding along with another nationally competitive fellowship?
Yes, Beinecke Scholars are eligible to receive scholarship disbursements to supplement the support provided by a Rhodes Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, Knight-Hennessy Scholarship, Gates Cambridge Scholarship, Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and a Fulbright U.S. Student grant for graduate study.
Can students receive Beinecke funding in addition to other internal grants from their graduate school?

Are there any limits on how much money Scholars can receive in a year?
Yes, the most that Scholars can receive from the Beinecke Scholarship in a fiscal year is $15,000, exclusive of the $5,000 start-up funds.
What happens if a Scholar changes their mind about graduate study?
Scholars are encouraged to remain in regular contact with the Program Director to discuss any possible modifications to their proposed graduate school plans. The Program Director will help the student determine whether alternative graduate programs are eligible for Beinecke funding.
