Beinecke Scholarship Information
Providing funding and mentorship to help outstanding college juniors with a demonstrated history of financial need pursue advanced graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
“That this program is available to people without the means to make a bold decision is its greatest strength.”
Frances Beinecke
How the Scholarship Works
Each year, approximately 145 colleges and universities are invited to nominate a single student for a Beinecke Scholarship, and up to 20 new scholarships will be awarded.
Applications are reviewed by a committee consisting of the Program Director and three other scholars and artists with expertise in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. New Beinecke Scholars are selected based on their demonstration of superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise during their undergraduate career.
Only currently enrolled students at participating institutions are eligible for nomination. Students cannot apply directly for the Beinecke Scholarship themselves. If you are interested in applying, please contact your campus liaison to learn about your school’s internal nomination process.
If You Are Nominated
If nominated, you will work with your campus liaison to complete and submit the required application materials.
If You Are Awarded
If awarded, you will receive a $35,000 total scholarship, distributed over up to five years, in support of your graduate study.
Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible you must: (1) be a current junior at one of our participating institutions; (2) be a US citizen or US national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands; (3) have a documented history of being eligible to receive need-based financial aid; and (4) intend to pursue creative- or research-focused graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
